Goth or Muslim ?
Goth or Muslim ? by 786Khadija featuring crystal jewelry
Some people ask how can you be a Goth if your Muslim, but sometimes it is hard to tell them apart...
"I find myself a stranger to all communities and belong to no settlement. The universe is my country and the human family is my tribe". Khalil Gibran
Asalamulaikum warahmatullahwabarakathuhu :)
ReplyDeleteI think that there are rules for being both. One of the main differences are that Muslims are not supposed to draw attention to themselves from the opposite sex, which makes dressing goth difficult depending on a persons lifestyle. Like how women can't wear form-fitting clothing because boys really can't control their eyes. Second, maybe, is that some muslims in certain countries sticking closely to family and friends may find their loved ones unapproving of their interests. I suppose if you follow the boundaries of your religion you can do want to.
So I hope to learn something here, mostly about the clothes and make-up. :)

Wa Alikumas Salam,
DeleteThanks for your comment. What I was referring to was the particular outfits in the picture. The pics with faces are from a Goth online shop while the others are Abayas from an Islamic Online shop, yet to me they are strikingly similar. Many Goths don't wear tight clothes. There are sub groups like Lolita and punk who tend to go for that style.
However I am more Victorian Gothic or Elegant Gothic Aristocrat Style. Not tight or form fitting at all, long and loose.
Hijab is about observing modesty in general not because "boys can't control their eyes". The lust response is a real phenomenon and it has been empirically proven that Males are more visually stimulated than females, however that is not the sole reasoning behind the religious observance of Hijab.
You won't learn anything about makeup from my blog ! I don't wear it and never have. Some Hijabi sisters do wear makeup but I don't. I already have the deathly pale Goth look from having naturally pale English skin. So you will have to look elsewhere for make-up tips sorry :(
There are many good Goth websites/blogs. Myne is not a Goth blog just an anything blog. I feel that Goth is who you are rather than a strict set of rules about what clothing to wear or Music to listen to, or anything like that.
Thanks for reading my blog :)
I agree with you both. Gothic subculture is not about drawing attention to yourself, it's about who you really are. I literally hate people who say that muslims can't be goths :/
